I have finished about 40 seconds of animation on Griff Hagarth. It's all
rendered out at 1280x720 which is kinda nice, and the animation looks better than
the older version. That's about half as much animation as I had completed on the
last version that I was working on in 2003 before I scrapped the whole thing and
taught myself how to model characters that actually deformed well.
The past week I've spent on another project, essentially an attempt to recapture
that look I had in The Treasure of Wunday, but modeling in Wings and
animating in XSI. So far, I've gotten surprisingly far. I have created a
pipeline for creating new characters, bascially one default body type for now that
can serve as the basis for many characters. That, and I learned how to rig from
scratch in XSI in the process.
I did 5 seconds of animation using those characters today, just a simple beginning
of a fight sequence. Once edited with the opening title from The Fly, and
with punch and kick sounds added, it all looks pretty impressive for a crappy toon-rendered
cut out style. Hopefully I can do a dialogue test tomorrow to see whether the characters
will hold up when speaking.
